Scrapped convention center plans another frustration for Rogers

New York City has not been kind to Pritzker Prize winning architect Richard Rogers. The architect who helped create the Pompidou Center in Paris saw his ambitious design for the expanded Javits Convention Center rejected by state politicians. Rogers worked on a plan to enliven the parts of the South Street waterfront that are under the shadow of an elevated highway. And he’s awaiting movement on his city-approved design for residences, retail, and film production facilities at Silvercup Studios in Queens. Rogers will remain involved in the smaller Javits expansion under a new contract.
