Bold plans for building a mixed-use development around an Atlantic Avenue jail might have been dropped because of lack of interest from developers, but the city hasn’t given up on the Brooklyn House of Detention. At an American Institute of Design meeting yesterday, renderings by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill were shown of ground-floor retail spaces. That didn’t sit well with Sandy Balboza, president of the Atlantic Avenue Betterment Association. “The community opposes the expansion of the jail,” she said.
