While New York City’s foreclosure filings increased last month, they remained flat compared to a year ago. That’s in stark contrast to the rest of the country — foreclosures have gone up 57 percent nationally over the past 12 months. Within the five boroughs, foreclosure-related filing went up 15 percent from December to January, resulting in one filing for every 1,508 households. The Bronx, the only borough with fewer foreclosure notices, saw a 9 percent decrease. Nationally, foreclosure filings increased by 8 percent, resulting in one filing per 534 households.
