A lesser-known industrial part of Long Island City could get more attention if a generating plant goes on sale. If the plant remains, the area along the East River and north of the 59th Street Bridge will remain an industrial and residential hodgepodge. However, if the plant is sold to a real estate developer, the neighborhood could become attractive to residents looking for more affordable homes near Manhattan. The winners of the silent auction for the plant, which sits on a 26.4 acre plot, will be announced this spring.
