A controversial proposal to tear down an historic building at 746 Madison Avenue
near 72nd Street and replace it with luxury condos will go before the
Landmarks Preservation Commission today. Friedland Properties wants to
demolish the two-story structure built in 1885 by the synagogue of
Congregation B’nai Jeshurun. Dozens of residents testified against the
proposed 14-story tower at a public hearing last month.
