Homicide detectives are investigating the death of the owner of the Long Island estate said to be the inspiration for the home of the “Great Gatsby” in the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. F. John Handler, 57, had been embroiled in a decades-long family feud over the estate. He was found unresponsive outside his Kings Point home, one of nine homes at a cliff-top estate called the Point. Handler, who had been suffering from health problems, fought for years with relatives over control of the 21-acre property, which has views of Long Island Sound and even New York City off in the distance.
