A 30-year-old construction worker died in Brooklyn yesterday after a wall collapsed on him. Workers were digging the foundation of a commercial building at 791 Glenmore Avenue in East New York when a neighboring wall collapsed. Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster said there was “evidence of shoddy work conditions” and that the wall should have been shored up. The department issued a stop-work order and said the workers were “reportedly” employed by Greenleaf Construction. William Lattarulo owns both the building under construction and the neighboring residential building, 795 Glenmore Avenue, which authorities pulled down. Three people inside the building escaped unhurt, but they and their family have been displaced. The city has vowed to crack down on unsafe building conditions following calls for an overhaul of inspections. In January, a worker fell to his death while working at Trump Soho and another worked died at a Clinton Hill development in Brooklyn.
