An unidentified buyer paid $45.1 million for a condominium in the rehabilitated Plaza Hotel at 768 Fifth Ave., according to city records posted today. The sale of apartment 1109, which went into contract in March 2006, was finalized April 7. It is just shy of the most expensive apartment sale this year: the $46 million paid for a 17-room, seven-bedroom duplex penthouse at 1060 Fifth Avenue, a record for a New York City co-op. The buyer was hedge funder Scott Bommer and his wife, Donya, a former television anchor. The sale is the second-highest price ever paid for a condo in the city, after Harry Macklowe’s Plaza apartment, which he reportedly paid $60 million for. In this month’s issue, The Real Deal outlines the most expensive sales since the start of 2007.
