Mayor Michael Bloomberg unveiled a plan to revitalize the South Bronx yesterday that calls for adding 8,000 housing units, 80,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and 160,000 square feet of hotel and conference centers. Although $3 billion has been spent since 2002 in building up the area, the Bronx remains the city’s poorest borough. That’s not stopping Manhattanites from moving businesses there. Ed Taylor moved his fish distribution business from the Meatpacking District to Hunts Point. And artist Emily Stedman moved her gallery from Tribeca to Mott Haven, although she was forced to remove an exhibit that the community considered pornographic. [Post], [Post] and [AMNY]
