Thanks to increasing assessments, the average city dweller’s property tax is increasing by $171. Manhattan’s expensive single-family residences are taking an average hit of almost $2,000 in increased property taxes. Small-home owners in outer boroughs will likely see bills increase by up to $167. On Staten Island, however, co-op owners will actually save $166. These surges are in spite of the $400 property tax rebate and a 7 percent property tax cut that were preserved in the city’s new budget.
