Georgica targets parents and doctors with medical panel
The Upper East Side’s new Georgica condominium is pulling out all the stops to attract families and doctors.
Tomorrow evening, the building will give parents a chance to meet the doctors featured in New York Family Magazine’s annual guide to the city’s best pediatricians. The magazine, published by Manhattan Media, spotlighted eight of the city’s top pediatricians in its October issue and several of the honorees will be on hand to answer parents’ questions.
The event — a panel discussion followed by a Q & A session — will be held at Georgica’s sales center at 324 East 86th Street. More than 130 people have already RSVP’d that they will attend, according to the developer, Rob Kaliner, president of the Ascend Group.
“The doctors want to meet parents, and we’re a family oriented building,” he said. “It’s a combination that works well together.”
In addition, he said, the event will act as a networking event for roughly three dozen doctors who are expected to attend. Physicians are another one of Georgica’s key demographics, he said, because of its proximity — at 305 East 85th Street — to nearby hospitals. “We’ve gotten a tremendous amount of inquiries from doctors,” he said.
But because of doctors’ unpredictable schedules, it’s often difficult to schedule sales visits with them, Kaliner said. Thursday’s event will give attendees an opportunity to get a good look at Georgica. “I think having an event like this will allow them to be more committed, time-wise, to seeing the interiors,” he said, adding that doctors — who are perceived to have recession-proof jobs — are highly sought-after buyers in the current economic climate.
Though the event will not include a sales pitch about Georgica, Kaliner said he hopes the event will draw attention to the high-end finishes, including Bianco Dolomiti marble and white oak herringbone floors.
It’s sometimes difficult to pique interest from neighborhood passersby when a building looks like any other construction site, he said. “We wanted to give people a chance to see the beauty of what we’ve created there,” he said.
Approximately 30 percent of Georgica’s 57 two-, three- and four-bedroom units have sold after four months on the market, he said. Prices in the building range from $1.7 million to $7 million. According to Streeteasy.com, the average price of units available in the building is $1,478 per square foot. Construction is expected to be completed in 2009.
