The 10-year-old independent moviehouse Two Boots Pioneer Theater in the
East Village is closing tonight, having fallen victim to rising rents.
The one-screen theater at 155 East Third Street, at Avenue A, is owned
by the founder of the Two Boots pizza chain, Phil Hartman, who couldn’t
secure a new investor for the movie theater. Hartman said it is no
longer economically feasible to keep the theater going, and is looking
to open a theater in Bridgeport, Conn. near a Two Boots
restaurant.
