In Brooklyn, the city will make
$4 million worth of repairs on 113 buildings with extensive violations if the landlords don’t fix them first. The buildings are on the city Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s list of 200 distressed buildings throughout the boroughs, and are mostly in the neighborhoods of East New
York, Bushwick and Bedford Stuyvesant, with one of the worst buildings being 27 Beaver Street in Bushwick. The landlords have until March
to make the repairs before the city does the work and fines the landlords by putting
liens against the buildings.
