The Lower Eastside Girls Club, partnering with developer Dermot Company, is moving forward with plans to build a clubhouse and apartment building on Avenue D, between East 7th and East 8th streets. The girls club — which provides leadership, health, literacy and arts programs for girls ages eight to 23 — and Dermot filed plans with the city Department of Buildings on Dec. 16 for the 12-story, 90,000-square-foot building. The building will have 72 apartments and the first four floors will be devoted to the club’s activities, including a photo and video center, planetarium and amphitheater. Architecture firm Cutsogeorge Tooman & Allen Architects said the project is expected to earn a LEED Gold rating.
