The Upper West Side’s Emerald Inn, at 205 Columbus Avenue near 69th Street, was scheduled to close in April this year, when its rent would more than double, but now has a two-year lease extension thanks to the down economy. The landlord, A.J. Clarke Real Estate, couldn’t find a tenant to pay the increased rent, so the 60-year-old bar will get to stay on the Upper West Side for at least another two years. The bar’s rent is $15,700 per month, which will be raised by several thousand dollars in the lease extension.
