The Department of City Planning will begin the seven-month Uniform Land Use Review Procedure for the redevelopment of Coney Island tomorrow. In a statement, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the redevelopment plan protects and preserves the unique character of Coney Island, while bringing more housing and retail to the area. “The plan to revitalize Coney Island will substantially increase the storied amusements area, creating a year-round attraction that will bring tourists and visitors to Brooklyn,” Bloomberg said. The mayor also said more than 4,500 housing units will be created, resulting in thousands of permanent and construction jobs. TRD
