Small homebuilders in trouble

Nationwide, small homebuilders are struggling as banks are asking for more money in collateral to
continue carrying loans on projects. And in addition to home values
falling, builders are confronting a wave of foreclosed homes coming on
the market at lower prices than new homes. According to an estimate by
the National Association of Home Builders, at least 20,000 builders, a
fifth of the total nationwide, have closed in the last two years.
