W Hotel’s opening depends on Deutsche Bank demolition

Developer Joseph Moinian’s W Hotel, at 123 Washington Street in Lower Manhattan, will open this year, but will have a quiet launch if the neighboring Deutsche Bank building is still standing. The majority of the hotel’s rooms face the ruined building, which is separated from the hotel by narrow Albany Street. Moinian said how much of the Deutsche Bank building remains will determine how many of the hotel’s 220 rooms will be opened. Work stopped at the Deutsche Bank building in the summer of 2007, when two firefighters were killed in a fire at the building, and the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. said the demolition should be completed by April, but there’s no set date when work will begin.
