The Westchester County Board of Legislators voted yesterday to build $50 million of affordable housing for minority groups, as part of a settlement of a lawsuit brought forward by the non-profit Anti-Discrimination Center. The divisive decision comes in the wake of accusations that Westchester hasn’t integrated its wealthiest communities and has failed to build adequate affordable housing. Today marked the deadline for county officials to decide whether they would accept the settlement or head to trial. County Executive Andy Spano said that he supports the decision and hopes it will start a national movement. “Westchester will be a model for the entire nation in dealing with fair and affordable housing,” Spano said.
