Openings and closings: Basil opens, Circa Now closes … and more
An underground Au Bon Pain location has opened in Midtown in the subway station below Rockefeller Center at 1250 Sixth Avenue between 49th and 50th streets, according to Midtown Lunch. Paul Anise, a 20-year Connecticut mainstay retailer of high-end kitchen and bath furnishings, has just inked a five-year lease for a storefront at 23-25 Greene Street between Grand and Canal streets in Soho. Also in Soho, British clothier All Saints is opening a store in April at 512 Broadway between Spring and Broome streets.
Global Grub, an eatery specializing in international bar food, is opening on the Lower East Side at 102 Norfolk Street between Delancey and Rivington streets.
In the Financial District, the Hook and Ladder II bar at the corner of John and Gold streets is reopening.
Recently shuttered Williamsburg menswear boutique Houndstooth will reopen as a pop-up shop for one week in the Kill Devil Hill space at 170 Franklin Street in Greenpoint. In Park Slope, a women’s boutique specializing in evening wear is opening on Lincoln Place near the corner of Seventh Avenue. Brownstoner brings word that Dangerous Mathematicians, a so-called “clothing design boutique” is moving from the Lower East Side and opening a storefront at 394 Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill Feb. 26. In Crown Heights, the Nostrand Park blog brings word that a kosher pizza and wine bar called Basil is opening at 270 Kingston Avenue near the corner of Lincoln Place.
Two new supermarkets are set to open in the Bronx. The first, Foodtown, will open at 282 East 204th Street in Norwood, while the other, a Western Beef store, will open at 2050 Webster Avenue in Tremont.
Amid these openings, there were a few closings. In the East Village, Circa Now is closing this weekend at 238 East 6th Street between Second and Third avenues. In Williamsburg, the Brooklyn Star, a restaurant at 33 Havemeyer Street, has sustained a fire that will keep the spot shuttered for the next few months. Also, Matter, a home furnishings boutique, is closing its Park Slope location at 227 Fifth Avenue, according to the All about Fifth blog.
