Openings and closings: the Mark opens, Olana closes … and more
Signs of a Harlem eatery, Vareli, have been revealed at 2869 Broadway between 111th and 112th streets, according Harlem + Bespoke.
On the Upper East Side, Jean-Georges Vongerichten opened its latest restaurant in the city at the Mark Hotel, named the Mark, at 25 East 77th Street on the Upper East Side. Meanwhile, Tre Otto Italian eatery opened at 1408 Madison Avenue at 97th Street.
On the Upper West Side, the Sunday greenmarket at the corner of 77th Street and Columbus Avenue is planning to expand this season with more vendors.
Michael Huynh has opened another Baoguette restaurant, called Baoguette & Thao Noodle, in Murray Hill in the old Burger Joint at 241 Third Avenue Near 20th Street, according to Grubb Street.
Left Bank Books at 17 Eighth Avenue in the West Village reopened, two blocks away from its old shop, after ongoing concerns over its future.
Vegetarian sandwich shop,Terri, has opened at 60 West 23rd Street. The much anticipated No. 7 Sub Shop is said to be opening this week in the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street on the corner of Broadway.
Executive chef Daljeet Malik, who owns several restaurants around the city, has opened Tamba Indian Grill & Bar at 103 Lexington Avenue. Professor Thom’s, the home of Red Sox fans is reopening at 219 Second Avenue and 13th Street in the East Village. The bar reportedly had some problems with its liquor license and had to postpone its launch. Vietnamese restaurant Le Da Nang is opening at 75 Second Avenue in the former Sea Restaurant site. At 127 East 7th Street near Avenue A, a so-called “molten cheese and beef fondue” eatery called Taureau is opening soon. At 12 St. Marks Place between Second and Third avenues, a new fusion restaurant called Hrai Mong is slated to open soon. The Museum of American Gangsters on 80 St. Marks Place in the famed Theater 80 is opening.
Crossing the river to Brooklyn, Van Leeuwen’s Artisan Ice Cream is opening a shop on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, adjacent to the Manhattan Inn at 630 Manhattan Avenue. Also in Greenpoint, Scales, a scarf shop has opened at 199 Green Street. Mode Bistro is open at 116 North 5th Street in Williamsburg. The menu will include French and American food with Chilean Wines and French Beers. Palmyra, the Mediterranean-focused restaurant, is open at 316 Court Street in Cobble Hill. Bushwick will be getting a cafe and art space, Little Skips, at 941 Willoughby Avenue. According to Launch Stalker, a new art space, Launch Pad, is coming on the scene at 721 Franklin Avenue in Prospect Heights.
In Queens, a new bagelry called Breadbox Café has opened at 47-11 11th Avenue in Long Island City.
As far as closings go, Flatiron eatery Olana is closing at 72 Madison Avenue on the corner of East 28th Street.
The Brooklyn Star at 33 Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg has shut down until at least late spring due to a fire that blazed through the establishment. The trinket shop Aurora at 185 Bleecker Street has closed its doors and relinquished possession to the Marshall’s office as indicated by the sign on the door. A 45-year Bay Ridge mainstay, the Hutch, a home furnishings boutique, will be closing its doors at 8016 Third Avenue by the end of March.
