The Landmarks Preservation Commission is set to review proposals for two Coney Island buildings at its weekly meeting tomorrow, according to Brownstoner. This preliminary hearing, focusing on the Shore Theatre at 1301 Surf Avenue and the Childs Restaurant Building at 1208 Surf Avenue, not the boardwalk location, will determine whether the sites will be voted on for landmark designation in the future. Vin Cipolla, president of the Municipal Art Society of New York, spoke out in support of the possible landmarking. “These two buildings are incredibly intact remnants of early 20th century Coney Island,” Cipolla said. “I commend the Landmarks Preservation Commission for taking steps to protect these two important Coney Island buildings.”
