104 West 40th Street gets landmark status

The Landmarks Preservation Commission announced today that it will grant 104 West 40th Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, landmark protected status. The protection of the mostly-glassed-facade building represents the panel’s effect to protect more modernist structures in recent years, according to Robert Tierney, the commission chairman. “The designation of the Springs Mills Building demonstrates the commission’s commitment to recognizing the modernist movement,” Tierney said.

JLL steps in at Downtown post office

With the U.S. Postal Service looking to shed some of its assets at its 1 Peck Slip location, Jones Lang Lasalle has issued a Request for Qualifications on behalf of the U.S. Postal Service. The 1 Peck Slip office, located in Lower Manhattan between Pearl and Water streets, contains a 70,800-square-foot building and a 17,789-square-foot parcel of land.

Fashion 26 opens its doors

After months of anticipation and delayed opening days, the garment district’s new hotel, Fashion 26 – A Wynham Hotel, was slated to open today at 152 West 26th Street on the corner of Seventh Avenue. The 22-story project, spearheaded by 24-year-old wunderkind and principal with the Infinity Group, Steve Kassin, will include 280 units and a gourmet hamburger eatery RARE Bar & Grill on the ground floor. Room rates start at $299 a night. TRD
