Lawyer gets 20 months for real estate scam

An attorney formerly with the city’s Office of Corporation Council was sentenced today to 20 months in prison for deceiving clients in the sale of a property in the Bronx and another in Spring Valley, Rockland County, the office of the United States attorney in Manhattan said.

Hugh Zuber was accused of defrauding clients in the 2007 sale and financing of the five-story apartment building at 2538 Creston Avenue, in the Bronx, and a 2006 sale of a home in Spring Valley, the US attorney’s office said.

Zuber was working for himself in these transactions and was not representing the city.

He was sentenced to 20 months in prison and three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $384,001 in restitution and forfeit $301,250 he took through the transactions, authorities said. TRD
