The Best Western’s Arena hotel, at 1324 Atlantic Avenue between Nostrand and New York avenues, is hoping to boost business by capitalizing on the nearby Barclays Center basketball arena which isn’t even built yet, the Brooklyn Paper reported. The hotel is the first business to use the arena name to take advantage of the Barclays Center project which won’t be completed until at least Fall 2012. Hotel owner Mukesh Patel said he needs to stake his claim now. “Once it opens up, there will be a big jump of business,” he said, predicting that Atlantic Avenue will get a big boost from new restaurants, retails and
condos. Though Patel claims his Best Western — at eight avenue blocks away — is the closest to the Barclays arena, others hotels are actually closer, according to the Brooklyn Paper. The Comfort Inn on Butler Street at Third Avenue is only seven street blocks from the arena site, while the Holiday Inn Express at Union Street and Fourth Avenue is also a shorter walk.
