A Brooklyn construction company owner was found guilty yesterday of
stealing two East Flatbush properties from a dead woman, the Daily News
reported. George Marks, 43, had been accused of forging deeds and
mortgage documents that showed he had bought the two buildings, at 243
East 54th Street and 5501 Church Avenue, for $10 each from the estate
of Nola Johnson. The buildings are worth a combined $1.1 million, but
Marks, who now faces a minimum of 10 years in prison when he is
sentenced next month, had argued that Johnson gave him the properties
because she hadn’t paid him for repairs. Prosecutor Richard Farrell
told jurors during the trial that there is no record of any such repair
bills. [NYDN]
