Another Andrew’s Coffee Shop bites the dust

Andrew’s Coffee Shop at 116 John Street

Andrew’s Coffee Shop, at 116 John Street between Cliff and Pearl streets in the Financial District, closed after 31 years, Vanishing New York reported. The coffee shops are named after Andrew Zamel, a Palestinian immigrant who came to New York in 1960 and began opening the shops in 1963. At one point there were 15 such coffee shops in Manhattan Including One On West 34th Street and another at 136 Fifth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets — but most have shuttered in the last few years. One location, near Broadway and 39th, became a Pret A Manger. Another location, at 463 Seventh Avenue at 35th Street, is still operating.
