“Redhook Green,” a zero-energy live-work Space Planned For Conover Street in Brooklyn, has been shut down by the Department of Buildings, A View from the Hook blog reported. Developer Jay Amato was trying to get approval to build the mixed-use project — reportedly the first zero emissions building to have been constructed in New York City — in an area zoned just for manufacturing. However, since only a small portion of the structure was to be residential and the site is adjacent to another grandfathered residential property, Amato had been advised by his architect, Jim Garrison, that DOB would likely grant his request based on the residential portion being an accessory use, rather than the primary one. The developer is now thinking of building a green office building or applying for a zoning variance, which can cost more than $50,000. [A View from the Hook via Brownstoner]
