Lorraine Grillo has been named president of the New York City School Construction Authority, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced yesterday. A 17-year veteran of the agency, Grillo has been acting president since April, when she stepped in to fill the role vacated by former SCA president Sharon Greenberger, who was tapped as COO for the Department of Education. As president, Grillo is charged with overseeing the construction of new schools in the city, as well as the renovation of existing school buildings. The SCA has been behind the construction of upwards of 100,000 school seats since 2003, which Bloomberg said is in large part thanks to the SCA’s ability to bring down the cost of construction. “Having worked for the School Construction Authority prior to the Bloomberg Administration, I’ve witnessed up close how remarkable the turn around has been,” Grillo said in a statement.
