Ex-Crown Heights hospital to get $12M rehab

A non-profit group is turning the abandoned hospital building at 151 Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights into an affordable housing complex for recovering psychiatric and disabled patients. According to Brownstoner, the Concern for Independent Living is planning to spend $12 million renovating the property, including putting in a new entrance, windows, floors, plumbing and electricity and adding solar panels plus a roof terrace. The 65-unit facility won’t be a hospital but will instead provide “supportive services,” though not enough of them to satisfy at least one member of Community Board 8, who complained at a recent meeting that “there will not be… sufficient supportive staff on hand” for the “type of individuals that would be housed in the facility,” the minutes show.
