Details of the New York Aquarium’s planned $150 million renovation have emerged, according to the Wall Street Journal, with the project set to be completed in 2015. The aquarium, which attracts roughly 750,000 visitors a year at its Coney Island spot on the corner of Surf Avenue and West 8th Street, will receive a new, glimmering facade in the development, as well as a new 50,000-square-foot shark attraction. Also slated for the project is a new entrance that opens up directly onto the Coney Island boardwalk. So far, the project has received $49 million in funds from the city. Aquarium officials said that the facility still has to raise tens of millions of dollars to complete the project. [WSJ]
