Several new dollar stores have recently opened in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn, according to the Sheepshead Bites blog. A new 99 cent store opened on Nostrand AvenueNear Avenue X, just after another dollar store opened on Ocean Avenue and Avenue Z, which itself came after an expansion of another such store on Nostrand Avenue. These openings mirror a national trend of dollar store locations capitalizing on the recession. In Brooklyn, these stores are looking at the surge in shoppers as an opportunity to expand their offerings and raise prices. Jonah’s 99 Cent Store at 1644 Sheepshead Bay Road has been selling larger items for over a dollar for years, but they’ve lately expanded on those items.
