Colonie, the biodynamic eatery that opened last week at 127 Atlantic Avenue, between Henry and Clinton streets in Brooklyn Heights, has the power of the social network to thank for its opening, according to the Brooklyn Paper. Local architect Alex Meyers of MADesign designed the site, a farmhouse-chic style location with a rustic wood ceiling and floor, old church pews for seating, plants hanging on a wall and mirrors over the bar. Eight months ago, owners Elise Rosenberg, Emelie Kihlstrom, and Tamer Hamawi set up an account on the then-obscure fundraising website Kickstarter, announcing their eatery and seeking donations to jumpstart it. In exchange for money, they offered incentives; a pledge $50 would earn you a round of drinks for four people and $1,000 bought an eight-person, family style dinner. The goal was to raise $10,000 by Nov. 1, but by year’s end, they had raised over $15,00 from 91 backers. [Brooklyn Paper]
