Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined local officials at the Queens Museum of Art yesterday, at 111th Street and 49th Avenue in Flushing, to kick off a $65 million expansion project. The museum, which was once the site of the United Nations and twice hosted the World’s Fair, will grow to 50,000 square feet by 2013. This will double its current size, and make room for more galleries and events, the Daily News reported. Alan Suna, chairman of the museum and CEO of Silvercup Studios, told the paper that the improvements will make the museum “the pride of Queens.” Bloomberg said he hoped the bigger museum would bring more tourists to the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park area.
