The Council of School Supervisors and Administrators union will be moving
its headquarters to Lower Manhattan from Downtown Brooklyn after 21
years, Crain’s reported. CSA has purchased a 32,019-square-foot commercial condominium at 40 Rector Street for $8 million, the first sale at the 600,000-square-foot 19-story building, which is owned by Philips International. “We decided to move to get [a] more consolidated space,” a CSA spokesperson said, adding that the new office space is at least 5,000 square feet larger. “Over at 40 Rector we will be on one huge floor.”
Bob Hebron of Ingram-Hebron Realty, the commercial brokerage that markets space at 16 Court Street, CSA’s former location, said the move is not a sign of a downturn in Downtown Brooklyn, explaining that the union’s long stay in Downtown Brooklyn demonstrated its satisfaction with the area. He said he is already showing the space to prospective tenants, and thinks it would be a good location for a government-related organization since the property is close to the courts and public transportation. CSA will take up the 12th floor at 40 Rector Street, an 89 year old office building that is being converted into commercial condos. About 15 percent of the units are in contract at the building which is also the location of several city agencies, according to Michael PIlevsky, managing director of Philips International, who said he expects to close on another condo sale next month.
