A construction worker died this morning after falling off the roof of a six-story church at 13 West 60th Street, the New York Post reported.

The man, whose name has not yet been released and who had been working on a restoration project for construction company West New York at the site, fell 125 feet from the roof of St. Paul the Apostle Church, which was being used for “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” rehearsals, fire officials told the Post. The Rockettes were practicing in the church basement when the incident occurred and heard a “big bang,” David Foster, their stage manager, said.

“It was a big enough bang to startle all of us in the basement,” he said.

The victim was working on a sub-ceiling and installing the safety net, and may have lost his footing on the ladder.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Fire Department of New York Deputy Chief Anthony DeVita said, but there were “reports of electrical issues.” [Post]
