From left: DJ Bijal and Hotel BPMTwo weeks ago, Mayor Michael Bloomberg stood outside the Z NYC Hotel in Long Island City and touted the city’s thriving hotel industry — especially outside Manhattan.
But according to the New York Post, while most of the hospitality development in outer boroughs is concentrated in neighborhoods closest to Manhattan, two nontraditional concept hotels are being developed for 2012 openings in Borough Park and Sunset Park neighborhoods of Brooklyn, well south of Manhattan Island.
A 65-room Clarion Inn Hotel On 36th Street in Borough Park being developed by Jonathan Yunason, founder of Reda Group, will appeal to the observant Jewish community in the area by being 100 percent kosher. Like a similar Condor Hotel that opened last year in Williamsburg, the hotel will even have special elevators to accommodate guests who observe Shabbos.
“The neighborhood is filled with large families with relatives who come to visit for the holidays, bar mitzvahs,” Yunason said. “They need a place to stay.”
The Sunset Park hotel will be a 76-room structure called Hotel BPM (or, “Beats Per Minute”), developed by celebrity DJ Bijal. His songs will play throughout the building.
Overall five hotels will bring another 523 rooms to the borough next year. [Post]
