The Chetrit Group selected the same King & Grove Hotels brand they infused with cash last year to manage the Hotel Chelsea, Hotel Chatter reported.
King & Grove, a boutique hotel brand first launched in the Hamptons by former Morgans Hotel executives Ed Scheetz and Ben Pundole, also agreed to purchase Hotel Williamsburg, The Real Deal reported yesterday. The Chetrit family has invested in the hotel group for its expansions to South Beach and Los Angeles.
King & Grove plan to build upon Hotel Chelsea’s artistic legacy with a series of events related to music, visual arts, literature and poetry that started with the controversial Patti Smith concert. Though management canceled the concert for tenants after they protested, Smith still performed for the hotel’s management on Wednesday. Eventually, the hotel will have artists performing and living at the property, Hotel Chatter said.
The report noted that King & Grove must prepare for a contentious environment, as the landmarked buildings’ tenants pushed out BD Hotels in its effort to manage the hotel four years ago. [Hotel Chatter]
