The Surf Lodge restaurant and hotel was granted another adjournment for a court case focusing on the Montauk spot’s nearly 700 code violations, East Hampton Patch reported. There is now a new attorney on board to defend the restaurant.
“Motions, if filed, will be before April 16,” said Justice Catherine Cahill.
As previously reported, the Surf Lodge’s former attorney went to court Monday for pre-trial motions over the zoning violations.
The Surf Lodge’s owner, Edgemere Montauk LLC, was charged with 686 violations of town codes and one fire code violation. According to Patch, these violations were all issued between May and September of last year.
Thomas Horn, former East Hampton Town fire marshal who is an attorney in private practice in Sag Harbor, is the new representative for Surf Lodge. He told Patch that his new appointment gives him little time to prepare “due to the sheer number of violations.”
East Hampton Town attorneys said they opposed the change in attorneys, adding that if no acceptable disposition is reached to make motions at the late date, they said, then they will be proceeding to trial. [Patch]
