Former Cushman CEO departs to lead Canadian newcomer’s first NYC office

Former Cushman & Wakefield CEO Arthur Mirante will head the new Manhattan office of Canadian brokerage Avison Young, a statement from Avison today said. The new office will mark Canada’s largest independently-owned commercial brokerage’s first foray into the New York City market.

Mirante, who led Cushman for more than 20 years, will join Avison as a principal and president of the tri-state region.

During his tenure at Cushman the firm’s revenue grew from from $100 million to $1 billion, the statement said.

Mirante returned to the brokerage business last decade, becoming president of global development and relenquishing the CEO spot. Last year, he formed a team with fellow former Cushman CEO Bruce Mosler.

The New York City office is Avison Young’s 13th location outside of Canada. Over the past three years, the firm has grown to 30 offices from 11, and to more than 900 real estate professionals in North America from 300. Earlier this month, Avison Young opened a new office in San Francisco, Calif.

“Our strategic entrance into this market is a cornerstone of our corporate growth strategy and presents us with a tremendous opportunity to introduce Avison Young’s differentiated client-centric service model, which focuses on aligning the interests and needs of our clients with the best-in-class skill sets and intellectual capital of our professionals,” Mark Rose, CEO of Avison Young, said in a statement. — Guelda Voien
