Tech mogul sells Fifth Avenue pad to 15 CPW owner for $31.5M

Having listed his six-bedroom unit in a pre-war Fifth Avenue building in January, cellular communications mogul George Blumenthal has succeeded in securing a quick sale. A deal for his 6,000-square-foot unit at 1030 Fifth Avenue hit public records today for $31.5 million, just $3.5 million less than the initial asking price.

The co-op unit, in a 13-story, white-glove building on the corner of 84th Street, traded to a couple with a taste for high-end real estate. Buyers Zachary Jared Schreiber and wife Lori already own a three-bedroom, 3,173-square-foot spread at 15 Central Park West, according to previous reports.

Blumenthal’s 9th Floor Residence On Fifth Avenue features a corner baronial-paneled living room with views south and west, according to the listing, as well as a library and formal dining with a fireplace. The home also includes a gym and two maid’s rooms.

Warburg Realty’s Bonnie Chajet And Ronnie Lane first listed the unit in early January for $35 million, Streeteasy.com data shows. The listing entered contract in early February, and closed April 17.

Lane referred all questions about the unit to Warburg’s press representative, who was not immediately available for comment.

Neither Blumenthal nor Schreiber was immediately reachable for comment.

Schreiber purchased the 15 Central Park West unit for $11 million in 2008 and tried to sell it on for a massive $31.5 million last year. The listing, by Kyle Blackmon of Brown Harris Stevens, was taken off the market 10 months ago, according to Streeteasy.com. Blackmon was not immediately available for comment on the reasons the listing was pulled.
