Ralph Bartel, the founder of Travelzoo and a major investor in Lanvin and Devi Kroell, is buying a vacant Soho lot to construct a retail building for one of his brands, the New York Post reported. The lot, at 144 Spring Street on the corner of Wooster Street, is owned by an affiliate of Centaur Properties and will be trading for nearly $30 million. It is 100 feet by 20 feet and has been home to a flea market for more than 20 years.
The Post said it is the last vacant corner in the neighborhood and is zoned for five stories plus a basement, which brings the total available square-footage to about 12,000.
