The discount retailer Daffy’s today announced that all locations will be closing over the coming months, Crain’s reported. This comes as part of a company liquidation and follows suit with discount retailer Syms, which also shuttered its stores.
Daffy’s was previously rumored to be in financial hot water and last year fell into a leasing dispute at a Midtown location. In a statement, the company said that it “deeply regrets that this action was necessary due to the impact on its business of the uncertain economy and weak consumer spending and a lack of viable financial and business alternatives.”
Daffy’s has a total of 19 locations, eight of which are in Manhattan. The flagship is located in Times Square and occupies a 17,000-square-foot space. The final date of liquidation has yet to be announced. [Crain’s]
