New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center has hopped on the Upper East Side hospital expansion bandwagon, DNAinfo reported. A group of hospital officials presented preliminary plans last night to Community Board 8 for a new 15-story Green Building On York Avenue between 68th and 69th streets, which will function as an ambulatory care center.
The proposed extension would occupy a lot where two residential buildings currently stand. Over 200 tenants live there, DNAinfo said, and the majority of them are hospital staff. Officials said they’ve notified the tenants, some of whom live in rent-regulated units. If they’re rent-stabilized tenants, the hospital will find them housing in other hospital-owned buildings for the same rent.
As previously reported, the Hospital for Special Surgery was the most recent Upper East Side hospital to announce expansion plans with a 13-story ambulatory care facilit. In addition, and despite controversy, Memorial Sloan-Kettering proposed a 172,000-square-foot Upper East Side expansion, which is larger than zoning allows. [DNAinfo] — Zachary Kussin
