Spacecutter, a design studio, has issued a concept proposal to convert a one-story brick warehouse near McCarren Park in Williamsburg into a 60,000-square-foot market space called the Williamsburg Market, Curbed reported. The cost would total $9 million.
Advertised on Spacecutter’s website as “like Chelsea Market, but better,” the structure proposes to have two floors and a green roof. The first floor would house food vendors and stalls, including fruit and vegetable purveyors and sandwich and coffee shops. The second floor would be a deck offering park views, as well as restaurants, bars and other nighttime establishment, the Spacecutter proposal reads. The green roof up top would aim to be an extension of McCarren Park and have a staircase connecting it to the outside for pedestrian access. There would also be underground parking.
However, neither Curbed nor Spacecutter mention the address of the existing warehouse property. The status of the project was not immediately known. [Curbed] — Zachary Kussin
