Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner joined other local officials, as well as developer Lennar Urban to break ground this week on a 215,000-square-foot 74-unit condominium building on the Weehawken waterfront, which is less than four miles from Midtown Manhattan.
The new building, called 1000 Avenue at Port Imperial, is the first of five that Lennar has planned for the waterfront plot. All together, the buildings will be known as the Avenue Collection and will include luxury condo units. Lennar Urban hopes to deliver the property in the fall of 2014, said Craig Klingensmith, the division president of Lennar Urban.
The seven-story 1000 Avenue at Port Imperial building will have a total of nine one-bedroom, 42 two-bedroom and 23 three-bedroom homes with upscale finishes, a release sent by the developer said. Prices for the units will start at $700,000 and pre-construction sales are slated to begin this fall.
A glass and brick façade will sheath the property and residents will have outdoor space — either private balconies, terraces or access to A Common Outdoor Plaza. There will also be a parking garage and many homes will have access to two parking spaces each.
