NYC condos increasingly become wedding venues

Wedding trends famously fluctuate as swiftly as the real estate market, but in New York City the two appear to have intersected. According to the New York Post, more New Yorkers are holding weddings in party spaces, courtyards and roof decks of their New York City apartments.

While event planners say these weddings can be more difficult logistically, the Post focused on the savings. A couple that wed on the roof deck of the L Haus condominium building in which they live were required only to pay a $1,000 returnable deposit. The Sheffield‘s party space, though smaller, can be had for just $800 for six hours.

Weddings are held approximately twice a month at One Hanson Place‘s giant roof deck, which could host as many as 1,500 people, and for residents of the building cost less than the $12,500 the Skylight Group charges Brooklyn residents.

The trend is another example of the importance of party spaces in new developments, according to the Post, which cited brokers that said some buyers eschew larger units in buildings without these spaces for smaller apartments in developments that possess them. [Post] — Adam Fusfeld
