Following a meteoric rise to fame over the past year, Golden Globe award-winning actress Jessica Chastain has purchased a New York City home.

Best known for her role as Celia Foote in “The Help,” Chastain paid $1.2 million for a two-bedroom spread at 250 Mercer Street in Greenwich Village, according to public records filed with the city today.

The co-op apartment first hit the market is February asking $1.49 million, according to Streeteasy.com, but its price was later chopped to $1.39 million. The unit was listed by Christopher Au, Meg Siegel and Rachel Siegel of Sotheby’s International Realty. Au declined to comment on the sale. Chastain was represented by Sarah Schlisser and Isaac Halpern of Halstead Property.

The Mercer Street building, located on the corner of West 4th Street, is one of the Village’s largest co-ops and is known for its liberal board policies. Chastain’s new apartment features a custom-built wooden staircase, a wood-burning fireplace and vaulted ceilings, according to the listing.

Chastain, who played a lead role alongside Brad Pitt in Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” last year, is also set to star in “Mama,” a horror film produced by Guillermo Del Toro, next year.
