At least 50 homes in the Queens neighborhood of Breezy Point have been destroyed by a fire set off by Hurricane Sandy, NBC News reported. At least 170 fire fighters were on the scene early this morning after a six-alarm fire was reported around 11 p.m. Monday.
The FDNY tweeted early this morning: “QNS 6-6 BREEZY POINT FIRE, 50+ HOMES COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY FIRE.”
The neighborhood is in the Zone A, which was under a mandatory evacuation order, and had already experienced flooding. [NBC News] —Christopher Cameron
