Park Avenue condo conversion goes Dutch
New York’s going to seem a little more like New Amsterdam. The team at the condominium project at 404 Park Avenue South will bear a Dutch name — Huys — to go with its Dutch developers, Curbed reported. The name comes from Stadt Huys, the old Dutch spelling of City Hall, and is pronounced like “house.”
The project’s designer, Piet Boon, and its developers hail from the Netherlands and aim to “bring their world famous Dutch Light to the heart of New York,” according to the condo’s website. The property will contain 58 luxury loft condos, spanning from one-bedroom to four-bedroom units.
The developers filed suit last month against the adjacent Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel, alleging that the hotel’s owner, Centurion Realty, improperly demanded a $5 million rights deal before it would let contractors install safety equipment on the hotel, which the condo developers said was necessary to complete building renovations.
